The Power of Hope: A Star Wars New Year's Eve Reflection

Now that we’ve finished Ewokin’ around the Christmas tree, the end of the year is approaching at hyper speed, and it’s time to reflect on the past twelve months. Having made peace with the closing year and plans for the future, many of us look for ways to ring in the new year with hope and optimism. For those of us who prefer to celebrate NYE with a cozy night in over a wild night out, one way to do this is by watching a movie that inspires us to believe, always, in the possibility of a better future.

So if you're looking for a movie to watch on New Year's Eve that will leave you feeling uplifted and ready to tackle the new year, consider giving "Star Wars: A New Hope" a try. This classic film, which was released in 1977, tells the story of a group of rebels who band together to fight against an evil empire and bring hope to a galaxy in need.

One of the things that makes this film such a great choice for New Year's Eve, is its message of hope and redemption. Throughout the film, we see characters who have faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles, but who never give up hope that they can make a difference and change the world for the better.

Whether it's Luke Skywalker, who learns to embrace his true potential as a Jedi Knight, or Princess Leia, who shows incredible bravery and determination in the face of danger, the characters in "A New Hope" serve as inspiring examples of what it means to persevere in the face of adversity. Even Han Solo, whose preference for solely looking out for his own gain is highlighted in the surname he carries, is able to overcome his self-serving lifestyle to contribute to a bigger and more noble cause.

When planning our goals for the new year, we can’t neglect to remember  the team work and grit of the rebels as they unite to tackle the oppressive hand of the Empire. Whatever the “Empire” in your life is - work, finances, self-doubt, relationships, etc - remember in the coming year to rebel against the idea that you have to battle them alone. Build a support system, a rebel alliance if you will, of friends and family that help keep you encouraged and uplifted as you face this new year with hope that you will meet your goals. After all, rebellions are built on hope ;)

In addition to its inspiring message, "A New Hope" is also a great choice for New Year's Eve because it's just plain fun to watch. With its epic space battles, memorable characters, and iconic music, "A New Hope" is a film that never fails to entertain. To paraphrase a friend, if it has space wizards fighting with laser swords, what’s not to like?

Finally, and perhaps the best reason of all, whether you’re streaming the movie or watching an old DVD, if you hit play at just the right time, you can ring in the new year by blowing up the Death Star! If you’re streaming the Deluxe Edition on Disney+, hit play at 10:02:43PM, and the seconds ticking down to midnight will align with the destruction of The Planet Killer. You’ll start your new year off with a literal bang!

So if you need to end this year in a way that will leave you feeling exhilarated, inspired, and ready to tackle the new one, consider giving "Star Wars: A New Hope" a try.

And may the force be with you as you ring in the new year with hope and optimism!
